It is thesis defense season at Istituto Secoli; the Master’s courses for the 2012/2013 academic year have reached their final stage.

The level achieved is exceptionally high, as evidenced by the grades with which the young former students have graduated.

We would like to give a special mention to the splendid work presented by Kong Ki Young for his MENSWEAR MASTER’S thesis defense: a “bespoke” collection featuring the typical elegance of classic menswear combined with original touches of “freshness” and joy. A capsule collection that conveys personality and great technical and creative skill, despite the designer’s young age.

Drawing inspiration from the genius of Steve Jobs, who stated that “design is the fundamental soul of a human-made creation,” Kong developed a personal fashion concept based on three “Cs”: CLASSIC, COLORFUL, and COLLABORATION.

The looks are designed based on a concept of Italian sartorial fashion that combines Classic volumes and silhouettes with bright, vivid, rich, and expressive colors… In a word, Colorful. These two worlds merge through the combination of traditional menswear fabrics with printed and colorful linings and interiors, which, by contrast, allow for the Collaboration of two seemingly opposite stylistic concepts, blended in an exquisitely harmonious way.

Kong designed two different types of looks: one with a more youthful, dynamic, and neat impact, and the other with a more formal style.

Three types of garments were created: the “three-button” slim jacket for the more youthful line, featuring shirt-style rolled-up sleeves; the “four-button” jacket with soft, rounded patch pockets and puff sleeves; and finally, for a more traditional, classic, and rigorous man, the “double-breasted” jacket.

During the tailoring phase of its creation, Kong was able to enhance the details with specific ironing methods, craftsmanship, and hand-stitched finishes,” proudly states Gaetano Currò, professor of pattern making. “The modern inspiration can be seen in the interiors of the outerwear; the use of printed linings provides a brighter and more contemporary touch.”

Congratulations to Kong and all his colleagues, and best wishes for a sparkling career from the entire Secoli Staff!
