The two-year evening course in Womenswear Patternmaking represents the perfect synthesis of academic excellence and the flexibility required by the contemporary world. For nearly a century, Istituto Secoli has been training the “makers” who support Made in Italy, and this vocational path makes the renowned Secoli Method accessible even to those who cannot attend during the day. This is not a condensed course, but a comprehensive and rigorous program that guides students through the entire architecture of female garments: from the flat geometry of the pattern to the three-dimensionality of the garment construction, through to industrialization and size grading. The two-year program is structured to transform passion into solid expertise, teaching how to design skirts, trousers, shirts, dresses, jackets, and coats with engineering precision, progressively integrating sartorial craftsmanship with the most advanced CAD technologies.

Who is this course suitable for?

This path is the choice of excellence for a category of determined and pragmatic students: workers and professionals who wish to retrain or specialize without giving up their current employment. It is ideal for those seeking an alternative “Plan A,” transforming a latent passion into a true technical profession, as well as for those already working in the sector who want to acquire technical skills to move into the product office. It requires consistency and dedication, as balancing work and evening study is a challenge that rewards those with strong motivation for change and personal growth.

What are the career prospects?

The diploma awarded at the end of the two-year program carries significant weight in the labor market, as it certifies the possession of “technical expertise” that companies struggle to find. Graduates are ready to join technical and style offices as patternmakers, prototypists, and garment technicians: key figures who translate the designer’s sketch into a feasible and marketable product. The ability to manage both manual cutting and CAD software (Lectra/Modaris), combined with a deep knowledge of fit and textile issues, makes these profiles indispensable for garment companies, patternmaking services, and fashion houses that focus on product quality.

Class Schedule

The course includes approximately 350 hours of lessons each year.

Attendance is mandatory, with lessons three evenings a week from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM and two Saturdays a month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 12:45 PM to 3:45 PM, for a total of approximately 7.5 evening hours per week and 12 hours per month on Saturdays.

The lessons will be delivered primarily in person, given the importance of laboratory activities in the curriculum, but with the support of various digital applications.
