SECOLI FASHION SHOW 2024
diachronies | scenes from time
Looking at the present to be in one’s own time; mastering the past to better understand today, giving life to new knowledge.
Time acquires value in the reworking of ideas and in the definition of heritage, process and result of the relationship with the past that leads to the attribution of different meanings in the present.
Celebration as return, the restitution of the idea devoid of its original condition but in new form, within a contemporary temporal flow.
SOCIAL VALUE - THE PRIMORDIAL GREETING
The primordial greeting as an act that opens to knowledge.
An individual’s identity is generated based on the relationship with others and the greeting represents the first connection with the other. The interaction is immediate and leaves an indelible trace.
Its meaning has changed over time, losing importance and leaving the person defenseless in the face of the remnants of a now discredited value. Human relationships are transient, reality is virtual, dialogue is reduced, the fear is that of disappearing (afraid to disappear).
SOCIAL VALUE - IDOLATRY
Idolatry as a practice of worship. The venerated idol appears material, embodied by solemn depictions, rich in value ; the idol represents perfection, a celebration of beauty and power. In the process of idolatry, the most significant evolution is achieved through an intense attachment to the mythologized figure. Only the role of science calls its social value into question, causing its downfall. The myth fascinates and captivates, but only at the end does the need to prolong the cycle of worship through a new shaping emerge.
ARTISTIC VALUE - ACTIVISM
The artistic value of the object is calibrated on activism, understood as the tendency to consider the moment of action preeminent over all other aspects of any activity. What manifests through the celebration of knowledge, whether satire or denunciation, is the transformation of matter that generates a reversal of meaning in which art is the means of action.
HISTORICAL VALUE - THE BERLIN WALL
The Berlin Wall as the subject and starting point of the collection. The wall is “demystified.” Over the years, attempts to overcome and tear it down have proved futile, giving way to an architectural “barrier” with historical value and artistic charge. The wall acquires a symbolic value made of dualism; its identity appears mixed: brutal and melancholic on one side; energetic, subversive, and instinctive on the other.
ARTISTIC VALUE - THE CURATOR
Bringing to light what apparently cannot be seen, safeguarding, revealing and caring for it to offer potential meaning to the subject that regains new life: this is the action that underlies the artistic value guaranteed by the figure of the curator. Time unveils and reveals everything, it is necessary to safeguard and know how to preserve, then resume and bring back to the present objects characterized by new modernity and evolution of use.
AESTHETIC VALUE - THE EXPRESSIVE UGLY
The ugly as expressive meaning. The canons of traditional artistic culture are ousted, and the value linked to the non-beautiful acquires new connotations. The challenge we face is learning to see without preconceptions: beauty in art is no longer considered aesthetic pleasure but an expressive language. Aesthetics is now conceived as the fascination of the unconscious; what appears is interiority.
AESTHETIC VALUE - CREATIVE EVOLUTION
Everything is born, grows, transforms, and develops. It starts from the evolutionary concept of the primordial state : aesthetic messages, like organisms, are initially undefined and imperceptible raw matter that subsequently changes appearance. Everything is in motion, forms adapt, slowly expanding; they grow, taking on concreteness and new appearances. The canons of aesthetic value appear different; they are the result of continuous creative evolution.
