The “Secoli Fashion Show” returns for its thirtieth edition,

an unmissable summer event by Istituto Secoli

Press release Milan, June 13, 2013 – The start of the Milanese summer brings an unmissable event: as it does every year, the Secoli Fashion Show takes the stage at Alcatraz. This end-of-academic-year runway show by Istituto Secoli is an international benchmark for the study of industrial patternmaking and prêt-à-porter design.

This year’s occasion is special: the Secoli Fashion Show reaches its thirtieth edition, hence the title “30 Years Young,” which celebrates 30 years of effervescence, creativity, and ideas that remain young and fresh.

To celebrate this significant milestone, the young creatives of Istituto Secoli have explored the new frontiers of fashion: the leitmotif of the evening is a focus on “green” initiatives, reinventing the past while looking toward the future. There will be many surprises on the runway: original explorations of shapes and volumes using zero-impact fabrics, corsets combined with outerwear in an androgynous look with a sartorial feel, deconstructed and reinvented vintage garments, and sophisticated craftsmanship and eco-compatible materials merged into a kaleidoscope of colors.

There will be 9 themes for the Institute’s students to address, allowing them to measure their “creative practicality”—the art of translating a stylistic idea into a perfectly conceived and crafted garment, learned during their training. Many of these collections stem from projects developed in collaboration with leading companies in the Italian and international fashion systems: Lectra, Macpi, Lanificio Bottoli, La Rocca, Lisa, and Asahi Kasei, who deserve recognition for the Cupro competition.

The fashion show is held under the patronage of the Province of Milan, the Municipality of Milan, the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, Sistema Moda Italia, Piattaforma Sistema Formativo Moda, and the National Association of Professional Technicians for the Fashion System.

“Once again this year, our students will demonstrate their talent on the runway,” says Matteo Secoli, Managing Director of Istituto Secoli. “This is an opportunity for them to express all their passion and enthusiasm. Thirty years have passed since the first Secoli Fashion Show, and it is a source of pride to know that many of the students who participated in previous editions are now creative directors, head patternmakers, production directors, and/or hold prominent positions within the most important companies and institutions in the fashion sector.”
