2025 SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT FOR UNIVERSITY STUDY RIGHTS NOW ONLINE

The 2025 Scholarship Announcement for University Study Rights (DSU) is now online for students enrolled in the three-year academic program in Fashion Design & Fashion Product Technologies.

The University Study Rights are based on articles 3 and 34 of the Constitution and provide the opportunity for capable and deserving individuals, even those without economic means, to reach the highest levels of education.

Through the DSU office, Istituto Secoli provides scholarships and coordinates interventions and services aimed at making this right effective, as provided by Lombardy Regional Law No. 33 of December 13, 2004.

In previous years, all students who qualified in the ranking have received the DSU, confirming the effectiveness and accessibility of the announcement.

CREATIVITY ON THE RUNWAY: THE SECOLI FASHION SHOW 2025 ENCHANTS THE AUDIENCE

Last night, the Talent Garden in Milan transformed into a stage of emotions and talent: over 500 guests and just as many via streaming attended the Secoli Fashion Show, the event that, for 42 years, has best embodied the Institute’s values and its community.

The evening’s protagonists were 31 Institute students, who presented extraordinary collections, the result of years of study, dedication, and passion. Thanks to their acquired knowledge and skills, both in style and technical design, the young designers demonstrated how talent combined with education is fundamental for entering the professional world. The students worked on the theme ‘Thauma’ | Projections of the Unexpected.

Opening the event, as in previous editions, was Designer to Watch, a project dedicated to some of the School’s most talented students who presented their first personal collection to the public, a manifesto expressing their aesthetic sense and telling their identity.

The event was supported and sponsored by some of the most important Institutions, which have always believed in the value of education as a driver of change and future: Lombardy Region, Municipality of Milan, ANTIA ETS – National Association of Fashion System Technical Professionals, National Chamber of Italian Fashion, IACDE-International Association of Clothing Designers and Executives, and Fashion Education System Platform ETS. In addition to the Institutions, companies, press representatives, and stakeholders from the textile-fashion sector applauded the students and their collections, supporting them in this important moment at the start of their professional journey.

“The Secoli Fashion Show appointment,” commented Matteo Secoli – President of Istituto Secoli – “was once again a success. A highly anticipated moment from the first year by our students, symbolizing our educational approach and training method, which combines technique, creativity, and vision. It’s their first major achievement, but also the beginning of a journey filled with challenges and opportunities. With 90 years of history, Istituto Secoli looks to the future with the same energy and passion as always. As proof of this, two important announcements: first, in 2026, a new educational hub in Milan will open alongside the historic headquarters in Porta Venezia and the prototyping school in Novara. The second concerns our commitment to fostering talent: for the first time, Istituto Secoli, in collaboration with NextCouture, offers a concrete opportunity to two young designers who showcased at the Secoli Fashion Show and who will be selected to turn their outfit into a marketable garment, available for sale.”

NextCouture is an innovative digital platform, a contemporary showcase between social media, community, and selected brands that supports future designers in transforming their talent into reality; within its international showcase, it can host unique pieces, Made in Italy-branded, sellable worldwide and customizable by the end user.

During the Secoli Fashion Show, a jury composed of journalists and fashion industry experts selected an initial shortlist of students, from which the two recipients of the NextCouture Scholarship will be chosen. The winners will be able to use the showcase offered by the brand for six months by placing their garment on the dedicated platform, making it known to a wide audience and directly responding to end users’ needs. A concrete opportunity to make their outfit a marketable garment, experiencing firsthand the new market dynamics of the fashion industry.

FROM APRIL 9 TO 12 ISTITUTO SECOLI @ DESIGN WEEK 2025

The Milan campus of Istituto Secoli, from April 9 to 12, hosts -during Design Week- the exhibition titled “Garments as Metamorphosis and Fusion between Body and Matter”, a blend of art, design, and fashion, showcasing works and projects by young Secoli talents, offering an authentic insight into the creative process and craftsmanship that have always characterized the school’s educational approach.

The event aims to provide a platform for dialogue between architecture, innovation, and tailoring, celebrating experimentation and cross-disciplinary contamination: on display is a series of garments inspired by the concept of “metal transformation,” created by some Secoli designers in collaboration with Fanny Art by Silvia Fanny – an entrepreneur in the metalworking sector and a talented artist-. A meeting point between metalworking and fashion, dominated by the material transformation process, especially metal, which, when inserted into special machine tools, produces in its essence two results: the object crafted to design and the metal chip.

The exhibition will particularly illustrate the stages from the conception to the realization of garments and design projects, focusing on pattern making, tailoring, and new technologies applied to fashion: an in-depth look at the stages of conception and realization of a product, highlighting how stimuli and influences cross disciplines such as visual arts, fashion design, product design, and new media.

During the meetings, Istituto Secoli students will be active participants, personally presenting their work to an interested audience, fostering open dialogue within the stimulating context of Design Week.

‘INSPIRATIONAL WORKSHOP’ AT THE LA SCALA THEATER LABORATORIES IN MILAN

Thanks to the valuable support of Gianluca Bauzano, an authoritative writer for “Il Corriere della Sera” and renowned expert in costume, fashion, music, and entertainment, our third-year students had the opportunity to experience a two-day “inspirational workshop“, in preparation for their thesis work.

The place where their creativity flourished, giving free rein to new ideas, is unique of its kind: The Ansaldo Laboratories, an impressive 20,000-square-meter structure, divided into three pavilions, capable of hosting artisanal production of stage settings – scenography, sculpture, thermoforming, carpentry, mechanical workshop, scene assembly, tailoring, costume development, and laundry.

A space that houses more than 60,000 stage costumes; a heritage that exists thanks to the daily work of over 150 staff members including carpenters, blacksmiths, set builders, scenographers, set technicians, sculptors, seamstresses, and costume designers, who create entire stage settings from a simple sketch.

Main features of the two meetings:

the parallel between dress and costume – presented by journalist Bauzano and illustrated during the visit to the theatrical costume department through the stories of those who experience these spaces daily, bringing incredible and exclusive creations to life;
open discussion sessions on art to draw inspiration and/or interesting insights for a broader sharing of artisanal values;
The mastery in creating extraordinary costume elaborations, explained through the viewing of stage costumes from theatrical productions, including pieces by fashion world names – to mention a few: Versace, Missoni, Yves Saint Laurent, and Coveri – “lent” to the theater.

OPENING OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR AT ISTITUTO SECOLI: VISION AND FUTURE BETWEEN CREATIVITY, TECHNIQUE AND INNOVATION

Istituto Secoli celebrated the beginning of the new Academic Year with a special ceremony that took place on November 26 at the Leonardo Da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan; the event was an opportunity to celebrate a new, important milestone that the Institute is celebrating this year: its 90th anniversary. Recognizing its significant contribution provided over the years in the field of education, reaffirming the value of technical education as a key element for innovation, the Centro Studi Grande Milano which -during the meeting- awarded Secoli the “Le Grandi Guglie della Grande Milano” prize.

The Ceremony featured several industry leaders who offered reflections on how innovation and tradition can coexist and inspire new generations, encouraging young designers to explore the future with the awareness of possessing solid technical foundations; thanks to Elena Buscemi – President of the Milan City Council, Mario Boselli – Honorary President of the Italian National Chamber of Fashion, Enrico Leonardo Fagone – Academic Director of Istituto Secoli; Giuseppe Gaeta – Director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples and President of the Evaluation Committee of Istituto Secoli, Fiorenzo Galli – Director of the Leonardo Da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology, Daniela Mainini – President of Centro Studi Grande Milano, Claudio Marenzi – President of Herno Spa and former student of Istituto Secoli – for their valuable contribution.

A GLIMPSE OF TALENT: SECOLI FASHION SHOW 2024

Great success for the SECOLI FASHION SHOW 2024: on June 6 at Milan’s Talent Garden, over 450 guests applauded the runway garments of 44 designers featured in the event’s 41st edition.

The 2024 show was a special one, part of the celebrations for the Milanese institute’s 90th anniversary: 9 decades that have helped write the history of Italian fashion.

In the front row, alongside the Institute and its students, Lombardy Region with its valuable contribution and the Municipality of Milan.

Alongside the Institutions, the most important fashion associations were also present: ANTIA, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, IACDE, Piattaforma Sistema Formativo Moda ETS; along with numerous companies and journalists: the Secoli Fashion Show proves once again to be an unmissable event for all industry stakeholders.

Opening the event were the capsule collections of ‘Designers To Watch’ Daniele Cavallo, Miriam Maggioni, Michela Santegidi and Ilaria Gerratana: the strength of their collections, the freshness of their creative vision, and the union between aesthetic dimension and concept moved the audience. The ‘Designer To Watch‘ project, created to showcase the best graduate talents from Istituto Secoli, once again defines its importance in previewing the future protagonists of the industry.

The central moment of the evening featured the graduating students’ collections inspired by the theme –Diachrony. Scenes from time. Heritage as a celebration of return: 40 designers’ “diachronies” walked the runway, combining studies, design, and applied research.

Alongside their artistic production were excellence names in the fashion landscape – Albini Group, Asahi Kasei Fibers Italia (BEMBERGTM), Brunello, Candiani, Eurojersey, Lectra, Lisa, Macpi, Tessitura Grisotto– internationally recognized companies for their product innovation and focus on sustainability, who contributed to the young designers’ work by providing cutting-edge materials, equipment, and tools.

The construction of garments through prints and fabrics, workmanship and volumes gave life to new valuable visions: a concept of time and contemporary heritage looking towards the future, an explosion of creativity that engaged and excited the Talent Garden audience.

SIMULTANEOUS CONTRASTS A PROJECT BY ISTITUTO SECOLI | TOSCA BLU FOR MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2024

During Milan Design Week 2024, Istituto Secoli will showcase –from April 15 to 20- the creations of selected students in the heart of the fashion district, at the Tosca Blu showroom, on the second floor at 5 Via Montenapoleone.

The collections of nine emerging designers from Istituto Secoli are paired with accessories from the Tosca Blu FW24/25 collection in a symbiotic play of ‘simultaneous contrasts’. The setting is enhanced by photographs specially created by Virginia Ronzoni.

The exhibition’s title pays homage to Bruno Munari and one of his most acclaimed books, “Design and Visual Communication,” first published in 1968.

Garments and accessories, two parallel creative experiences, engage in dialogue to create multiple simultaneous contrasts: chromatic, simple and complex lines, static and dynamic, soft and sharp forms, pure and decorated surfaces, expressions of present and future. The images, an integral part of the installation, invite reflection to understand possible dualities and grasp their potential.

SABATO DE SARNO GUEST AT ISTITUTO SECOLI

Istituto Secoli for the first time partner of IISMA – Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards – FOR VOCATIONAL STUDENTS

IISMA – Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards is the scholarship program promoted by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to fund Indonesian students and promote mobility to the best universities abroad.

An unmissable opportunity for university students who, through the IISMA project, have the possibility to spend a semester at a partner university abroad to: study courses outside their specialization, develop intercultural communication and leadership skills, experience the culture of the host country while developing an international network.

Istituto Secoli is the only Fashion Academy selected to participate in the 2024 program.
